eBooks

I saw the new Sony reader a few weeks ago and it encouraged me to think there may be a future for electronic books. I hope so, just because I like the concept - no trees cut down, collection maintenance much easier (I think, though that may be naive), and I suspect I am just intriqued by the audio books being transferred over the net.

Library control

I thought of the New Market library and how they could have used this and maybe saved money on their software.

Value of 23 Things

I am cheating, of course, because I haven't finished the course, but I have to say it was an interesting trip and I want to keep pecking away at it. Clearly some of us had a steeper learning curve and it may be we are the ones who benefitted the most from these exercises. I am having lots of fun tormenting some of the smarty pants in the family with my suave use of terms like, permalink, and even, wiki, cause now I know marginally more than they do!

I learned that the human community is moving onto the net for personal contact, that people spend astonishing amounts of time in their computers, and that there is a lot going on that I am totally unaware of - a separate universe. Thanks for the opportunity and thanks especially to James and Lesa for their hard work, Mary

Evolution of Dance

Turns out lots of people already know about this video. Just goes to show how culturally deprived I am.

youtube

Youtube could take hours, even a lifetime to play with. Interesting phenomenon. Obviously we could use the most-discussed category for library discussion group support. It looks like all sorts of issues are dealt with there. Do you get the feeling that Youtube is an interim format? Like it is going to become something else? I can't imagine what, naturally, or I would become very rich. And maybe I am just responding to the constant change in technology in general.

Fear This!

Fear This, originally uploaded by bookiecramer.

In only a couple of years, you will be contending for the right of way with this darling young man and his mammoth motor. Let me introduce you to my nephew, Taylor, King of the Farm Highway! He motors up and down the lane in anticipation of the day he, the dogs, and his juggernaut will be cruising the Circuit. This is one reason to be grateful for high gas prices!

They shoot horses, don't they?

Life is full around the farm - this is a picture of the bullet hole my favorite husband put in the new Jetta. Why, you may ask? Well, he was shooting a rabid raccoon on our front porch and a shotgun pellet missed the pickup from Hell and hit the center post of the new car. At least we think it missed the pickup - hard to tell.

computer technology

For me, computer techology is a means to an end and either nifty when it works or screamingly frustrating when it doesn't. Mostly I really like using computers and get great satisfaction when I overcome a problem with a click of the button. I am grateful to the programmers who have made it much easier to use these machines yet do more than we could do 15 years ago.

Euphoria!

I finally got past my problems accessing my blog and here I am in blogland! Just like going through the back of the closet in C. S. Lewis, right?

Regarding the 7 1/2 habits of life-long learners, I find it hard to commit up front to a learning task. I still haven't established a routine of learning basic Spanish through the Rosetta Stone and do tell me what could be easier or more fun?

OK, got to move on to the next item.

Catch up

This is sort of like taking a language in High School. Remember how foolish you felt when you first tried to say something out loud in front of your classmates and were pretty sure you were the only one who sounded so odd? So I need to read some of the other blogs and then I am sure I will feel better. I hope.
